About
Rising Stars Youth Productions & JTF Troupe focuses on theatre production, vocal technique, acting, and dance. Each production is fully produced by a professional creative team, and every rehearsal is also a mini-lesson in theatre-related topics. Rising Stars Productions are audition-only, with auditions usually held about a month before rehearsals begin.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
Rising Stars Youth Productions is a youth educational theatre series open to performers who are between 7 and 18 years old and are high school seniors. The program presents several annual productions, depending on the age requirements for each show, and young performers learn about the mechanics of theatre production, vocal technique, acting, and dance within an encouraging and positive environment.
The JTF Troupe attends the annual Junior Theatre Festival West, where groups present a 15-minute piece from a previously produced Broadway Junior or Broadway KIDS title for adjudication. The festival includes workshops from industry professionals, as well as concerts and presentations from Broadway stars and composers. In 2025, young performers in the program took part in the West Coast Premiere of Dare to Dream JR, a Disney musical revue, after producing the pilot of Dare to Dream JR in July 2024 and performing the new script in front of a festival crowd of over 2,500.
Rising Stars Youth Productions is a nationally recognized award-winning theatre program, with awards that include a 2025 Excellence in Acting award for Mean Girls JR., a 2024 Outstanding Production Award for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR., a 2023 Excellence in Ensemble Work award for Godspell JR., and a 2022 Excellence in Ensemble Work award for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. The Woodland Opera House, established in 1885, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, designated a California Historical Landmark, and is one of only four historic theatres still in operation across the state of California, as well as a contributing property to the Downtown Historic District. Its mission states that it is committed to preserving and operating its historic venue for the enrichment and enjoyment of the region and to nurturing the performing arts and providing live entertainment experiences for diverse audiences.
The Woodland Opera House serves as a cultural hub for generations and brings live entertainment to the community, and the JTF Troupe’s participation in Junior Theatre Festival West includes collaborations such as a July 2024 performance of the new script of Dare to Dream JR with Musical Mayhem Productions and Spark of Creation Studio in front of a crowd of over 2,500. Testimonials from industry professionals include praise from Jeff Calhoun, Director of Disney’s Newsies on Broadway at JTF West 2024, noting the group’s training in proper technique, and from Broadway composer Rob Rokicki at JTF West 2023, noting that the theater program creates confident young artists who work well as an ensemble and take pride in their work.
