About

Rising Stars Youth Productions & JTF Troupe focuses on fully produced theatre productions where young performers work on theatre production, vocal technique, acting, and dance. Each production is helmed by a professional creative team, and every rehearsal is described as a mini-lesson in theatre-related topics. Rising Stars Productions are audition-only, in contrast to the Musical Theatre Workshops and ShowBiz Kidz summer camps, which do not require an audition.

• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Auditions are usually held a month before the rehearsals begin.

Rising Stars Youth Productions is described as a nationally recognized award-winning theatre program. It has received multiple awards from Junior Theatre Festival West, including Excellence in Dance for Disney's Newsies JR. in 2026, Excellence in Acting for Mean Girls JR. in 2025, an Outstanding Production Award for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR. in 2024, and Excellence in Ensemble Work for both Godspell JR. in 2023 and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. in 2022. The JTF Troupe attends the annual Junior Theatre Festival West, created and produced by iTheatrics and sponsored by Music Theatre International (MTI), Disney Musicals, iHeart Radio Broadway, Playbill, and others, where groups present a 15-minute piece from a Broadway Junior or Broadway KIDS title for adjudication and take part in workshops, concerts, and presentations. In 2025, the program’s young performers were part of the West Coast Premiere of Dare to Dream JR, a Disney musical revue, and produced the pilot in July of 2024, and in that same year they performed the new script with two other youth theatre companies in front of a festival crowd of over 2,500. The Woodland Opera House, established in 1885, has a long history as one of California's oldest operating performing arts venues and states a mission of preserving and operating its historic venue while nurturing the performing arts and providing live entertainment experiences for diverse audiences. Jeff Calhoun, Director of Disney’s Newsies on Broadway, described the kids from Woodland Opera House at JTF West 2024 as a “well oiled machine” with “amazing training from their director and choreographer,” and Rob Rokicki, Broadway composer of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, stated in 2023 that it is clear the theater program creates confident young artists who work well as an ensemble and take pride in their work.
