About
Apex Park and Recreation District Youth Programs are part of a special district that includes more than a dozen facilities, a robust staff, a dynamic group of volunteers, and hundreds of youth sports teams. The programs operate within a larger organization that is not governed by the city or county and is a separate agency from other government agencies.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Business hours Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm
• Price: Only approximately 50% of the district’s budget comes from property taxes, with the rest coming from program and facility fees and proceeds from various fundraising efforts.
Apex Park and Recreation District was founded on November 13, 1956, as a special district created under state law to serve specific community needs. It is managed by an executive director and a five-member elected board of directors, with directors serving four-year terms and elections held every two years in May. The district’s mission is to enhance the health of the community socially, emotionally, and physically by being a gathering place and trusted resource for activities and programs that connect people and improve quality of life.
The district welcomes visitors from across the metro area and beyond who use its athletic fields and recreation facilities. It recently completed a year-long strategic planning process that included community surveys, community open houses, stakeholder interviews, and extensive research.
