About
Flatirons Dance Academy Camps & Classes offers a variety of themed dance camps and classes, including Improv Camp, Tumbling Camp, Hip Hop Camp, Princess Camp, Technique Camp, Taylor Swift Dance Camp, Contemporary Camp, Musical Theatre Camp, Turns, Jumps, Leaps Camp, Dance Team Tryout Prep Camp, and Cheer & Poms Camp. The program also offers recreational classes and a competitive dance program. Some camps, such as Contemporary Camp, Musical Theatre Camp, and Cheer & Poms Camp, include capstone or choreographed performances.

• Schedule: Multiple three-day camps run Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM during specified date ranges in June and July 2024
Flatirons Dance Academy states that each class focuses on the history, vocabulary, technique, and cultural context behind dance, and that classes highlight teamwork, collaboration, and positive group interaction. The Dance Team Tryout Prep Camp is for dancers interested in trying out for competition team and/or high school poms, with different age groups split among studios to work on age-appropriate skills. Cheer & Poms Camp includes learning cheers, proper hand and body movements, jumping techniques, small stunting, and focuses on team building and leadership.
Studio Owner and Director Jessica Fitzgerald holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dance from Colorado Mesa University, has performed in productions such as Chicago: the musical and the Grand Junction Symphony's Nutcracker, and her choreography has received awards including the showmanship award at the I Love Dance competition and overall choreographer of the National Believe Competition. Competition/Company Director Lanea Goulding has a background in jazz and contemporary, has explored hip-hop styles such as house, breaking, waacking, and popping, and has collaborated with brands like Nike and events such as the Vail International Dance Festival. Ballet Director Lizzy Whistance (Harrison) holds an Associate of Arts in Dance Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Dance, and has taught in the Denver metro area and in Wyoming. Tap Director Cassandra Weaver has over 32 years of training in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz and 29 years in Contemporary and Lyrical, holds a B.A. in Dance from Colorado Mesa University, and is certified in body combat. Jazz & Poms Director Ashley Thatcher (Connor) has trained in multiple styles including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, pom, and hip-hop, has danced for the Denver Outlaws and Colorado Mammoth, and works full-time as a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist. The leadership team also includes Haley Smith as Acro Director.
Flatirons Dance Academy states that it is committed to bringing quality dance instruction to local schools and communities.
