Sundance School of Riding describes itself as an educational facility focused on equine studies and various riding disciplines to enhance the relationship and bond between student and school horse. Instructors focus on the entire well-being of horse and rider by teaching fundamentals of overall horse care and more advanced horseback riding techniques, with the stated hope that students may one day own and care for their own horses. The program’s principal goal is to maintain the beauty and heritage of the equine community in the changing landscape of urban Colorado.

The program reports that past summers have brought over 700 kids through its offerings to experience horses. It has worked with Majestic View Nature Center and Avid4 Adventure through its summer horse camps, daily riding lessons, and camps.

Horses and tack are provided for lessons and camps, and all riders are required to wear an ASTM approved equestrian helmet, which can be rented for an additional fee. Riders must wear boots with a 1/4 inch heel that will not fall off, with tall English or Western boots and paddock boots with half chaps recommended for growing children. Close fitting, stretchy pants such as breeches, jeggings, or leggings are recommended for English riding, while jeans are recommended for Western riding, and any gloves suitable for driving a car are suggested for riding. Public rides for privately owned horses require proof of a negative Coggins test within the past 12 months, proof of Equine Influenza vaccine within the past 6 months, and proof of Equine Herpes Virus (Rhino) vaccine within the past 6 months, along with completed onsite release forms printed and filled out before scheduling times.

The program notes that it is not a boarding facility and that no outside trainers, large groups or organizations, shows, trick riding, or rodeo are allowed as part of its operations. It offers year-round camps and provides virtual lessons through its YouTube channel “Sundance School Of Riding - YouTube.” Online payments are available via the Venmo account mikia-parker.
