About
Survival Skills Day Camp gives campers a full week of hands-on survival activities, including navigation, animal tracking, tool making, fire building and safety, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, paddling, biking, and stand up paddle board. Campers explore the principles of Leave No Trace, observe and identify useful plants, track animals, identify scat, find food and medicine in the wild, and fashion utensils and shelter from gathered materials. They also practice flintknapping, basic navigation skills, paddling a canoe, water safety, learning how to read terrain to lead them to water, and how to purify the water they find.

Survival Skills Day Camp is taught by experienced Avid4 Adventure instructors who are all 18 and older with serious safety and skills training. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong. Avid4 Adventure states that its mission is to believe in the transformative power of the outdoors and operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service. The organization is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Avid4 Adventure notes that its summer camps are highly acclaimed, that it is a premium camp committed to paying educators a fair wage, and that programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17.
The Survival Skills Day Camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if Avid4 Adventure does not meet these promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free (“on us”). Avid4 Adventure also reports that it organizes big adventures in beautiful recreation areas. One parent testimonial from September 2023 describes this as their daughter’s favorite camp and mentions that she learned stand up paddle board, kayaking, and biking, including learning to ride a bike without training wheels during camp. Another parent from September 2023 notes that their child wanted them to come see everything she learned and did each day and describes the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion. A third parent from September 2023 says their kids had “the best time” at camp, were active every day, and were learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
