About

Groundworks Art Lab Youth Summer Camps offer hands-on studio art activities such as clay hand-building and ceramics hand-building, building functional pottery and creative clay sculpture, wheel-throwing, trimming and glazing clay, relief printing, block carving, printmaking, stamp making, screen printing, collage, printing with Legos, woodworking with supervised use of woodworking tools, and blacksmithing in a blacksmith shop. Each medium-focused camp uses real tools and materials in areas like clay, metal, wood, print, and glass. Print Camps use sharp tools and permanent inks and are described as just for older kids, and Wood Camps cover the basics of woodworking tools under supervision and are only for older kids.

Groundworks Art Lab states its mission as cultivating the artist in each person by inviting creative collaboration in the study, practice, and advancement of the studio arts, and it provides hands-on art education for all ages and abilities with affordable, accessible programs in wood, metal, glass, print, and clay. The organization offers scholarships for Youth Summer Camps, limited to one scholarship per child for one camp in 2026, and also offers pay-what-you-can options for some classes through a specific browse filter. Groundworks Art Lab describes itself as a true art hub with classes, studios, event space, and galleries, emphasizes hands-on work with materials in the studio arts, and notes that it is not stuffy and seeks out people who are bright, fun, and playful to foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable.

Groundworks Art Lab partners with local organizations to provide free and reduced-rate programs outside the studio to underserved members of the community and acknowledges that it is located at the confluence of Hinono’eino (Arapahoe), Tsitsistas (Cheyenne), and Nuuchi-u (Ute) tribal land in Boulder, Colorado, noting that this land known as Colorado is home to 48 contemporary tribes who have traversed, lived in, and stewarded this land since time immemorial.

One Groundworks student describes the community and the helpfulness, kindness, and patience from every teacher, saying the place could be very intimidating but instead feels warm and welcoming. An adult student says it feels like home, notes that the instructors and teaching assistants are great, and mentions there is a “lovely energy to make all feel welcome.”
