Survival Skills Camp gives campers a full week of hands-on outdoor activities, including navigation, animal tracking, tool making, fire building and safety, hiking, and canoeing. Campers practice basic navigation skills, learn principles of Leave No Trace, observe and identify useful plants, track animals and identify scat, and work on finding food and medicine in the wild. They also fashion utensils and shelter from gathered materials, try flintknapping, paddle a canoe while learning water safety and how to use canoeing equipment, and read terrain to find and purify water.

• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, with core camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM and extended care options

Survival Skills Camp is taught by experienced instructors who are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids, are all 18 and older, and have serious safety and skills training along with strong teaching abilities. Campers are grouped by grade range, with 2nd–4th graders and 5th–7th graders receiving customized instruction and taking on challenges suited to their age and skill level. Every activity starts with a discussion about risks, prevention, and response, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas along with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
The program is part of Avid4 Adventure, whose mission states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Avid4 Adventure’s summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, the organization is a Certified B Corp, and its camps have been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service, and its programs evolve with campers from age 3 through 17.
