Durango Mountain Camp is an intensive 5 ½ week language immersion program for diagnosed dyslexic students ages 11–16, with day campers ages 9–16. The program’s mission statement is “Helping Young Dyslexic Minds Thrive.” Established in 1998, it offers a highly personalized academic program that includes an hour daily of one on one Orton-Gillingham based tutoring along with individualized study hall, composition, and oral and silent reading. One parent testimonial reports that a camper named Connor shared about his adventures at camp, showed increased willingness to read, and was able to correctly decode many more words after attending, and states that the family plans to return next summer.
