Campers meet daily at a consistent location, then ride a free, supervised shuttle to a larger day camp site for their adventures, and return to the same facility for afternoon pick up. The program strongly encourages campers to bring their own bike for biking day and asks that any training wheels be removed before camp.

Explorer Camp Erie is part of Avid4 Adventure, whose mission states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The camp features a camper-to-staff ratio of 5:1, uses professional-caliber equipment, and transports campers to authentic local recreation areas. Instructors are described as insatiable outdoors experts who are all 18 and older, with serious safety and skills training, and the organization states that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe while teaching them to take calculated, well-communicated risks.

The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee and offers a Multi-Session/Sibling discount of $25 off per session after the first, a Referral Program that gives friends $50 off their first camp and provides a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when they purchase, and a Service Discount of $65 off for qualifying professions. Campers must be 5 by the start of camp, and the organization notes that its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. Explorer Camp Erie operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service, is accredited by the American Camp Association, has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is a Certified B Corp.

Avid4 Adventure’s leadership includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The organization states that it hires the most committed, experienced instructors around and teaches campers solid skills, including how to use sound judgment and problem-solving in all aspects of their lives. Testimonials from parents describe children learning new outdoor skills, riding bikes without training wheels after camp, and being eager to share what they learned each day.
