About

Sporting S7v7ns Academy includes soccer and flag football along with a range of outdoor activities such as white water rafting, river tubing, hot springs visits, outdoor yoga, and hiking. Players take part in on-field sessions and instruction, classroom sessions, a 7-aside tournament, yoga recovery, and goalkeeper-specific training. The program uses age-appropriate goals with full-size frames for shooting and goalkeeping and follows a 7-aside training methodology that states players have 36% more opportunities to make decisions, execute meaningful touches, and solve complex game scenarios while not changing the technique or context of an 11-aside match.

Sporting S7v7ns Academy offers a residential camp option with dorm lodging for a full immersive experience and an Extended Day camp option with lunch and dinner provided. The program includes a Rising 7’s camp for younger players with a separate morning or afternoon schedule and an age-appropriate curriculum, and all Rising 7’s receive their own ball. A dedicated athletic trainer is on site throughout the day, and players are supervised 24 hours a day with a staff-player ratio of 1:10 at most. The program states that it creates a pressure-free environment where learning is fun and competitive, focuses on teaching players to lead themselves and others through sport, and uses the phrase “Train Like Pros. Play Like Kids. Lead Like Champions.”

The Sporting S7v7ns Academy staff is described as professional coaches who are passionate and knowledgeable about youth sports and who hold themselves to the professional standard expected at Sporting S7v7ns. All coaches receive extensive background screening before joining the staff, which includes highly accomplished coaches working at the youth, collegiate, semi-professional, and high school levels. Leadership includes Kelly Brown, Head Coach of the Northern Colorado Rain FC of the USL-W league, a head coach in the United States Youth Soccer West Region ODP Program, and assistant director for Colorado Select on both the Front Range and Mountain Region programs, who holds a USC Advanced National Diploma, a USSF B license, and a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with an emphasis in Leadership Development, and who has previous college coaching roles at Regis University, the University of Colorado, and Colorado State University. Leadership also includes Fields Brown, current Executive Director of Albion Boulder County, who helps oversee the Colorado Mountain Select program and has coached at the youth and college levels in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Colorado, and who previously served as Club Director at Steamboat Soccer Club.

The program’s mission states that smaller fields create bigger players, described as thinkers, leaders, and lifelong competitors, and that its 7-aside training model is intended to accelerate technical growth, sharpen decision-making, and teach the value of communication and leadership in every moment of play. The mission further states that Sporting S7v7ns aims to provide top-level coaching and competitive experiences that develop skill, confidence, and leadership on and off the field, and that it creates environments where players train like professionals, play with joy, and grow into leaders who inspire others.

Sporting S7v7ns Academy leadership also directs Steamboat Soccer Academy, which was voted “Best of the Boat” in 2023, and Kelly Brown received the Best of the Boat award for best youth summer camp in 2023 at the Steamboat Soccer Academy. Testimonials describe Fields and Kelly as running summer camps that mix activities such as river rafting with intense games under the lights, and as being dedicated soccer coaches who are active in the youth soccer world. Another testimonial from Bobby Aldighieri, a 1992 Olympian, seven-year member of the US Ski Team, two-time Olympic coach, and junior soccer coach in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, describes Kelly and Fields as world class coaches who explain technical and tactical details with precision and enthusiasm and who are passionate about soccer in the United States. A further testimonial from a family involved with their coaching, education, camps, and tournaments over four years notes their enthusiasm, commitment, and passion for youth competitive soccer, references their experience managing and directing high school, club, elite development, ODP, and semi-professional organizations, and states that they have increased attendance and expanded the scope of every soccer function they have organized during that time.
