About

Expedition River Trip Colorado includes white water rafting, paddling, and navigating whitewater on the Arkansas River, along with camping and moving campsites each night down the river. Campers learn to rig, navigate, and paddle 7-person whitewater rafts, practice basic swift water rescue techniques and how to read the river, and spend three days on the water with nights camping under the stars. The program also includes a peak ascent with an attempt to summit a 14er in the Collegiate Mountains, plus cooking meals in the backcountry, maintaining a campsite, setting up and breaking down equipment, teambuilding, games during downtime, stories around the campfire, time alone reflecting, morning and evening circles, and an evening activity.

The program runs as a weeklong river trip for campers ready to take their rafting skills to the next level, with total camp hours listed as 125. No experience rafting is necessary, but campers should be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time and feel excited to spend three full, physically demanding days on watercraft. Campers sleep in basecamp tents, have no access to showers or running water, use portable toilets or pit toilets without flush capabilities, and use water that is brought to the site filtered for drinking, hand washing, and food preparation. The program is guided by Dvorak Expeditions, supported by two experienced Avid4 Adventure staffers and professional guides from a local whitewater rafting company, with Avid4 instructors all 18 and older with safety and skills training. It carries a Difficulty Rating of 2 – Single Sport Specialty and a Wilderness Rating of 1 – Improved Site Camping, and transportation to and from recreation areas is provided along with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Avid4 Adventure states that programs evolve from age 3 to 17 and that the organization gives kids the knowledge and confidence to take calculated, well-communicated risks while doing everything in its power to keep kids safe. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Available discounts include a multi-session/sibling discount of $75 off per session after the first, a referral program that gives friends $50 off their first camp and provides a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when they purchase, and a $100 service discount for qualifying professions. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service, is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry.

Avid4 Adventure’s mission states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors, that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and that it offers day camps and extended overnight options to inspire young explorers. The mission also states that Avid4 Adventure was created to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to support the future caretaking of the planet. Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a well-run program where staff are mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, and note that campers learned new outdoor skills and continued talking about camp and wanting to return.
