Premier School of Dance

Premier School of Dance offers Creative Dance, Combo I, Combo II, Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, Adult Classes, and Acrobat. Creative Dance is an 8-week, 45-minute class that includes fine and gross motor movement, creative movement, socialization, music, rhythm patterns, and props. Ballet focuses on classical technique and body alignment, Jazz includes body placement, isolations, turns, jumps, and improvisation, Tap emphasizes rhythm and musicality, Hip Hop teaches street-style dance, and Acrobat is a tumbling class without equipment.

Programs

• Creative Dance — Age 3 · 8 week session; 45-minute class. Introduces fine and gross motor movement, creative movement, socialization, music, rhythm patterns, and props in a structured and caring environment.
• Combo I — Ages 4 - 5 · 1-hour class introducing Ballet and Tap skills plus activity on the tumbling mat.
• Combo II — Ages 5 - 6 · Progression of Combo class with more difficulty in Ballet and Tap basics.
• Ballet — Ages 7 and up · Classical Ballet technique with an emphasis on body alignment and turnout. 8 levels.
• Pointe — By Director permission only. Pointe work teaches dancers to dance in pointe shoes.
• Jazz — Ages 7 and up · Traditional Jazz technique emphasizing body placement, isolations, turns, jumps, and improvisation. All Jazz classes attend once per week.
• Lyrical — Must be enrolled in Level IIA and up in Ballet or Jazz. Style of Jazz incorporating Ballet and Modern elements.
• Modern — Must be enrolled in Ballet or Jazz Levels IV, IVA, V and VI. Incorporates contract and release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.
• Tap — Ages 7 and up · Focuses on rhythm, syncopations, patterns, and the musicality of tap technique.
• Hip Hop — Ages 7 and up · High-energy class for boys and girls teaching funky, street-style dance. 2 levels for ages 7-9 and 10 and up.
• Adult Classes — Ages 18 and up · Premier currently offers Jazz & Tap classes for adults.
• Acrobat — Ages 7 and up · Tumbling class without equipment. Two levels.

• General schedule: Classes begin in late August and follow a nine-month curriculum until the end of May. Nutcracker and Holiday performances are in December. Annual recital is held in late May or early June.

About the provider

Premier School of Dance is celebrating 34 years of dance education. Its mission is to continue the artistry and tradition of dance, build appreciation for the performing arts and the life lessons that dance training provides, and inspire students through creative expression, entertainment, education, and participation in dance. The program says it is committed to spreading the joy of dance in the community.

Age-appropriate technical training and tasteful performances. Combo classes are based upon age unless given approval from the Director. Placement for Ballet and Jazz is by ability each summer. New students should schedule a placement class. Adult Tap requires some experience. Registration is not automatic after placement; dancers must still register during scheduled enrollment dates.
