• Ages: 0–18 years old
The program’s leadership team includes Ailene and Cindy, who describe themselves as champions for all abilities and focus on making swimming accessible to people of all abilities. Swim Angelfish has grown over the past 25 years to fill a gap in the adaptive aquatics industry, and its methodology is based on 30 years of experience as pediatric occupational and physical therapists. The staff are Swim Whisperers® certified and First Aid trained.
The program states that it is dedicated to transforming all abilities by providing aquatic skills through therapy, adaptive swim, and training programs. It offers world-class educational training programs and adaptive resources, including Swim Whisperers® Multi-Level Online Certification and free Adaptive Mini-Courses focusing on adaptive swim. It also offers an Adaptive Water Safety Toolkit as a free adaptive water safety tool.
Swim Angelfish collaborates with the community and partners with industry leaders to raise awareness, improve water safety standards, and share adaptive aquatics expertise to support inclusive access. By partnering with drowning prevention organizations, the program identified a gap in water safety resources for special needs individuals and launched a free adaptive water safety tool in response. The program also partners with larger community and government organizations to bring adaptive water safety skills to everyone.
In 2025, Cindy and Ailene and the Swim Angelfish community received the NDPA 2025 Lifesaver of the Year Award for contributions in adaptive aquatics, water safety, and drowning prevention. Host pools for Angelfish aquatic therapy and Swim Whisperers swim lessons are described as sparkling clean, kept at a comfortable temperature, and accessible. The program describes its approach as gentle and positive, with a focus on building confidence and fostering a lifelong love of the water.
Parent and professional feedback includes a parent describing a child who started with Swim Angelfish five years ago due to low muscle tone and sensory issues and is now a very strong swimmer and a member of a Swim Group at a local YMCA. Another testimonial calls the Swim Whisperers course a game-changer and says lessons have never been better. Additional feedback notes helpful information about self-regulation and sensory integration handling techniques that were immediately used, and another testimonial states that having the certification has changed the way instructors teach and think about adaptive aquatics.
