About
Carver Before-School, After-School, and Summer Programs offer project-based learning in STEAM subjects. As part of this project-based learning, students take part in international collaborations.
The Carver’s mission is to equip all learners for global competitiveness by leading strategic partnerships with schools and communities that advance excellence and growth opportunities. For more than 87 years, Carver has stood as a beacon of opportunity. Carver partners with schools and families to help students succeed from elementary school through high school graduation and works in partnership with schools to provide structured learning opportunities beyond the traditional school day. Carver before- and after-school programs operate in all Norwalk public schools (elementary, middle, and high), Side By Side Charter School, the Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport, and the Carver Community Center. Programs are led by certified daytime teachers, and Carver connects students with caring educators and community partners. The programs include before-school, after-school, summer, and workforce development options that combine academic support, enrichment, mentorship, and career exploration. Program features include project-based learning in STEAM subjects, free transportation, family engagement, recreational and wellness opportunities, and cultural enrichment. Students typically participate throughout their K–12 years, and Carver offers college preparation, scholarships, paid internships, and career exploration experiences. Carver empowers more than 3,000 students, parents, and teachers every day. Since 2005, 100% of Carver seniors have graduated on time, and from 2010 to 2020, 85% of Carver college students earned bachelor’s degrees within six years. In addition, 88% of Carver scholarship recipients complete degrees or certificates. Since 2022, $285K in wages has been paid to 248 interns across hospitals, schools, and nonprofits. In 2025, 32 graduating seniors earned admission to selective colleges including Howard, Wellesley, Penn State, UConn, and the Savannah College of Art and Design. Programs are led and supported by a leadership and administrative team that includes Novelette Peterkin (Chief Executive Officer), Brian Allert (Chief Program Officer), Chris Whitney (Chief Financial Officer), Clinton Hamilton (Chief Operating Officer), Kailee Scales (Chief Advancement Officer), Nikki LaFaye (Director of Philanthropy), Krissy Royce (Executive Administrator), Suzanne Allen (Administrative Manager), Shannon Singleton-Bates (Recreation Coordinator), Tricia Ciccone (Director of Elementary School Programs), Isiah Gaddy (Future Readiness Coordinator, Norwalk High School), Tremain Gilmore (Teen Center Manager), Mary Martini (Manager of Middle and High School Programs), Rayshonda Mitchell (Future Readiness Coordinator, Brien McMahon High School), Iman LaBorde-Mobley (Future Readiness Coordinator, Norwalk High School), Yadley Turnier (Manager of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning), Waid Ramsubhag (Manager of Carver After School Program for Education and Recreation (CASPER) & Jr. YDP at the Carver Community Center), Jackie Roberson (Social Worker), Emily Berliet (Senior Development Manager), Jennifer McPartlin (Development Coordinator), Jim Schaffer (Grants Manager and Institutional Research), and JoAnne Addison (Office Administrator/Front Desk).
