About
PlayDCGolf Academy Junior Programs include Spring Break camps, Summer Camps, private lessons, group lessons, leagues, and the Operation 36 Beginner Golf Program. Lessons are offered for all skill levels, ages, and genders, and the Academy has a large team of both year-round and seasonal instructors. The Academy serves over 4,500 students annually, with key participation by women and junior golfers.
• Schedule: Operation 36 Beginner Golf Program offers an 8-week option or a 1-day crash course option
Founded in 1989, PlayDCGolf Academy enrolls over 4,500 students each year. Junior Programs are described by the Academy as a top priority for growing the game, and the concept of “pioneer player development” is stated as a company commitment. The Operation 36 program teaches golf in reverse, starting everyone at level 1 from 25 yards from the center of the green, with a goal to shoot 36 (par) or better over 9 holes to move through 6 levels up to the full tee box, and participants can enroll at over 800 program locations and use technology to guide them. The Academy states that its mission is to develop and serve life-long golfers of all ages and abilities by encouraging students to learn, practice, and play in an environment that makes experiencing the game of golf fast, easy, and fun.
The Academy has a wide variety of clubs available for all age groups to use during their lesson, and participants who have their own clubs are recommended to use them. Range balls are provided by the instructor for the lesson, and balls are also provided if the lesson is on the putting green, course, or practice holes. There is no strict dress code at the public courses, and participants may come as they feel most comfortable.
The golf courses connected with these programs are part of the National Parks and were created to provide a space for sport and leisure, and National Links Trust states that its mission is to positively impact local communities across the United States by protecting and promoting accessible, affordable, and engaging municipal golf courses. It is stated that 100% of the money spent at Rock Creek Park Golf, Langston Golf Course, and East Potomac Golf Links is reinvested in these historic courses and the National Links Trust mission.
