About
Summer Culinary focuses on hands-on culinary classes where students practice advanced knife skills, classic line cooking, pastry arts, flavor theory, baking chemistry, flavor profiling, international cuisine, and plating aesthetics. Summer Culinary operates in its 15th summer and describes itself as an immersive culinary summer camp for high school students and junior high teens that bridges the gap between casual home cooking and professional culinary arts. The program is open to all students between the ages of 12–17, with both day camp and sleepaway (residential) formats, and offers an environment tailored specifically to match the maturity and focus of teenagers. Instruction is led by professional chefs, chef instructors, industry educators, and skilled staff, and the program uses world-class, top-tier professional commercial kitchens and secured, fully supervised university housing for sleepaway formats. The stated purpose of the program is to create a safe space where students gain confidence, skills, and leadership.
One 2025 parent from campusATX said that Summer Culinary chefs gave their 12-year-old son skills and confidence in the kitchen, and that he now makes dinner and dessert for his parents. A 2025 parent from campusSF described their extremely introverted son as being terrified going into the program and called it a life-changing camp that gave him confidence to be his own person, do scary things, step up to challenges, and enjoy them. A 2025 parent from campusNYC shared that their child truly enjoyed the classes, has attended for three years in a row, and is asking to return.
