Camp Fire Gulf Wind Youth Programs states that Camp Fire is a supportive, positive environment that provides safe, fun, constructive activities for children and adults. Its mission includes valuing children and youth as contributors to society, honoring their journey from birth to adulthood, and fostering their development from dependence, to independence, to interdependence. The mission also states that young people want to shape the world and that Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are, summarized in the phrase “Light the fire within!” and the statement that Camp Fire will teach a child how to thrive.

The organization describes its community involvement as translating its values into action through volunteer development, group experiences, mentoring relationships, youth decision making, embracing diverse populations, community collaborations and partnerships, advocacy, experiential learning, self-reflection, and fun.
