About
Summer Theatre Academy gives campers daily experience with acting, singing, dancing, theatre games, and acting exercises. Campers take classes in Acting, Music, Dance, Film, Playwriting, Improv, and Stagecraft. Every group writes scripts and either performs them onstage or records them as short films, and they also work on the visual storytelling aspects of existing pieces and their own material.
• Ages: 6–15 years old
• Schedule: Two sessions of three weeks each; Session 1 runs June 8–June 26, 2026 (no camp June 19), and Session 2 runs June 29–July 17, 2026 (no camp July 3)
Now more than thirty years old, Summer Theatre Academy is part of the University of Miami’s Department of Theatre Arts. It is a day camp for children ages 6 through 15 that focuses on developing creativity and an appreciation of the performing arts. Small groups are limited to no more than twenty students, and each session ends with a showcase of the campers’ work where every student performs with their group for families. The program includes an advanced, teenagers-only section for students going into eighth grade or higher, which offers specialized intensive workshops covering both performing and technical aspects of theater. Summer Theatre Academy is managed by theater education professionals who teach year-round at the college and high-school levels, with classes led by a teacher who is a college student or young professional with experience in the specific discipline, supported by a well-trained, caring staff.
