University of Miami Pre-College offers both credit and non-credit programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school, including options during the academic year to take college-level courses. The Summer Scholars Program is available to current high school sophomores and juniors, and UM Academies is available to high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Shark Academy runs in partnership with the University of Miami’s Shark Research and Conservation Program and includes classroom and field learning about ocean predators. Upreneur: Pre-College X LaunchPad Venture Challenge focuses on learning from entrepreneurs and bringing business ideas to life. The pre-college experience has been documented by photographers and videographers from the Division of University Communications, and UM has welcomed nearly 600 high school students to this type of college preview. During one Summer Scholars session, Francis Ford Coppola joined students via Zoom.

A residential student, Mariam H., described the UM Summer Scholars Program in Music Therapy and the Brain by saying it gave her an understanding of how her next four years in college would run, helped her learn how to balance social and work life, and allowed her to make friends and lifelong connections with professors.
