The South Florida Council is the local chapter of Scouting America and was founded in 1911. The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The programs of the South Florida Council annually impact more than 20,000 youth and their families. The council serves youth in the South Florida counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe, and in 2025 it acquired Direct Service for all Scouting America members living outside of the USA in North and South America. The Tatham Scout Service Center is home to the South Florida Council’s program support headquarters. Camp Elmore is a 117-acre camp that provides weekend and summer programs for more than 8,000 Scouts and families annually. Camp Everglades is a 220-acre tropical preserve that provides a rustic setting for camping and training sessions for Scout groups. Camp Sawyer is a 9-acre ocean front facility flanked between Florida Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on Scout Key and offers camping and aquatic activities for more than 3,500 Scouts and families annually. The Miami Scout Shop – “37 Degrees North” is part of the council’s facilities.
