Englewood Sailing Association Youth Sailing Programs

Englewood Sailing Association Youth Sailing Programs offers summer camps, fall and spring youth sailing, fall youth novice sailing, homeschool sailing and STEM, youth racing, and youth coastal cruising. The summer camps run Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM, and the fall and spring youth sailing seasons each have nine Saturdays from 11 AM to 3 PM. Homeschool Sailing and STEM meets on Mondays from 9 AM to 2 PM for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring.

Programs

• Summer Camps — 9 to 17 years old · Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM · Held at Indian Mound Park, Englewood, FL. Students must be comfortable in the water and able to swim. Focuses first on safety, then fun in the water.
• Fall/Spring Youth Sailing — Youth who complete a summer camp; new sailors and those ready for more advanced skills · Saturdays, 11 AM to 3 PM · $175 · Nine Saturdays each season. Includes Improving Sailors, Intermediate, and Advanced groups. Financial aid is available.
• Fall Youth Novice Sailing — 9 to 17 · Three Saturdays, 11 to 3 PM · $75 · For youth who have never sailed before.
• Homeschool Sailing and STEM — 10-14 years old · Mondays, 9 AM to 2 PM · $1,500 · 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring. Based on US Sailing's Reach STEM program. Includes environmental education. The only prerequisite is the ability to swim.
• Youth Racing — 9 to 17 · Nine Saturdays, 11 AM to 3 PM · $275 · For sailors who have sailed with ESA for a year or more. Racers will compete in the ESA Lemon Drop Regatta on Nov 14 and travel overnight to one regatta.
• Youth Coastal Cruising — 13 and older · Starting Sept 26 · For sailors who have sailed with ESA for a year or more and are actively volunteering. Learn to skipper the 30' Lippincott "Star Chaser" in the Gulf. Contact Shawn Beeson if interested.

About the provider

Englewood Sailing Association has been teaching small boat sailing on Lemon Bay since 2002. It is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to building confidence, character, and community through sailing. The association is a member of US Sailing, has US Sailing-certified instructors, and follows US Sailing's "Learn Sailing Right" curriculum. Graduates of the fall and spring beginning sailing program can earn certification through US Sailing's "Little Red Book" program.

Summer camp students must be comfortable in the water and able to swim. Homeschool Sailing and STEM students must be able to swim. Fall Youth Novice Sailing is for youth who have never sailed before. Fall Youth Sailing is for sailors who have completed summer camp or the Fall Novice Saturday program. Fall Youth Racing is for sailors who have sailed with ESA for a year or more. Fall Youth Coastal Cruising is for sailors age 13 and older who have sailed with ESA for a year or more and are actively volunteering.
