About
The SwimAmerica Learn-to-Swim Program teaches swimmers efficient technique from the first lesson forward, focusing on proper breathing, productive kicking, stroking, and streamlining. The program uses a curriculum with easy-to-understand skill levels presented through a station method, and levels are based on skill rather than age. Instruction is goal-driven, technique-oriented, and team taught, with mastery at each level happening at the swimmer’s own pace.
The SwimAmerica Learn-to-Swim Program is an ASCA Program and was created by ten founding educators who were brought together by ASCA in 1987 to develop its curriculum. Since 1988, SwimAmerica has been described as the fastest growing learn-to-swim program in the world, with programs across the United States and in over 15 countries. The program reports that over 5,656,831 people have been taught through more than 84,781,671 lessons, and it reports a recommendation and referral ratio from existing clients of over 96%. It was designed by experts in aquatics education, and its leadership team includes Coach David Robertson, Coach Dave Beaver, Coach Dick Hannula, Coach June Woolger, Vivian R. Jacobson, Coach Mark Schubert, Coach Rick Klatt, Coach Celine Cerny-Long, Coach Mike Stromberg, and Coach John Leonard, ASCA Executive Director.
Parents have described the program as well organized and curriculum based, and have reported that their children made significant progress and had fun, including first-time swimmers over two weeks of lessons. One parent reported that a child went from refusing to get into the water to swimming over a two-month period and was impressed with how well trained the instructors were. Another parent noted strong growth in underwater skills and confidence.
