Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Summer Camp
Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Summer Camp, 14900 Camp Mack Rd, Lake Wales, FL 33898
About
Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Summer Camp offers activities such as horseback riding (“ride that horse”), climbing (“climb that wall”), target sports (“hit that target”), rowing (“row your way to victory”), swimming, and archery. Campers of similar ages are housed together and take part in activities designed for their age group, with younger campers following set schedules and older campers having more flexibility. Campers may select one cabin mate attending the same session, as long as the choice is mutual. Girls entering grades 1–12 in fall 2026 can attend, and no prior Girl Scout experience is needed to participate.
• Ages: 6–17 years old
• Schedule: Overnight campers arrive on Sundays during the summer season at staggered times by program level, and are picked up on Saturdays at staggered times by program level; day campers can be dropped off between 8–9 a.m. daily and picked up between 4:30–6 p.m.
• Price: Non-members have an additional $45 fee for camp which includes a Girl Scout membership through September 2026, with an option to pay $91 for an extended membership through September 2027; camp counselor salaries start at $600/week.
Camp staff receive more than ten days of training, including CPR and First Aid, safety and risk management, emergency response, activity leadership and outdoor skills, and how to support campers’ mental health, including homesickness and bullying. Staff who supervise specialized activities such as swimming and archery have additional training and qualifications. Camp staff are screened through in-depth interviews, multiple reference and background checks, and a drug screening, and staff salaries start at $600 per week with meals and housing provided for most positions. Campers must be able to function independently in a 6:1 girl-to-adult ratio, and accessibility accommodations can be provided for a range of physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral, or communicative abilities, with many programs able to be modified to meet specific needs. If a camper has physical restrictions or uses assistive technology such as a wheelchair, crutches, or braces, families are asked to contact the camp directors so they can plan the best possible experience.
The camp leadership program includes CIT 1, CIT 2, and Camp Interns, with applications opening February 10. Girls who wish to participate in the camp leadership program must apply and interview, and CIT 1, CIT 2, and Intern registrations are completed manually by the Customer Care Team rather than online. The CIT training is aligned with the CIT Awards that Girl Scouts can earn and display on their uniform. The stated mission of Girl Scout Camp is to be a place to go on adventures, develop new skills, build new relationships, and strengthen existing ones.
All proceeds from Girl Scout Cookie purchases stay local to help fund girl-led programs, experiences, and learning in the community throughout the year. Through the Gift of Caring program, donated Girl Scout Cookies are provided to the military, Feeding Tampa Bay, and other designated organizations.
