Colo Colo Soccer Academy USA offers developmental and competitive soccer programs, private training sessions, and advanced technical training five days a week. The academy also runs a UPSL semi-professional level soccer program and an international scouting program.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
The academy’s mission is to develop the individual skills of its athletes so they can be effectively utilized in a team environment, while encouraging work ethic, technical ability, tactical awareness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It states that it strives to create an environment that allows players to grow as athletes and strive for success in all aspects of life, and to make soccer the preeminent sport in South Florida by sharing its passion for the game through diverse programs and enriching experiences.
The program describes itself as a training program for dedicated young soccer players who want to master the game of soccer, with training designed specifically for each player to build the foundation for a successful soccer career. It also states that it caters to youth who do not yet have the technical abilities to make the travel program and focuses on soccer development of both boys and girls, regardless of individual skill level. It notes that it provides a fun, safe and healthy game of soccer for kids at every level, with club-based programs designed to meet diverse needs from recreational beginnings to the highest national youth levels, and exceptional training programs for players of all levels. Sessions are described as intense and designed to challenge players of all levels, with personalized coaching that caters to each player’s individual needs. The UPSL program is described as providing soccer at a semi-professional level within the United States, and the international scouting program creates possibilities to participate in soccer abroad.
The leadership team includes Juan “Lolo” Abarca. The staff is described as having an extensive background of working with and alongside some of the top players in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. As an affiliated state organization of US Youth Soccer, the program states that it provides levels for all players, including local and national play, the Olympic Development Program, and US Soccer Federation coaching education licenses.
Parent testimonials describe Coach Lolo’s experience working with 8-year-olds who have never played, noting that he makes it safe but with discipline and participates with them the whole time, arriving organized and ready to teach drills and how to be an athlete, with one family’s 8-year-old and 4-year-old participating year-round. Other parents say their boys love Colo Colo, that the coaches and team are great, that the trainings help them get better, and that tournaments are well organized and get the boys excited about game day. One parent reports that the coaches are great with the kids and that their son has shown tremendous improvement in ability and stamina while working hard and having a great time, and expresses appreciation that Lighthouse Point was chosen as a location. Another testimonial, in Spanish and English, recommends the academy as a “real and good soccer academy” for children and expresses strong support as a Chilean parent.
