Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch, 1813 Cecil Webb Place, Live Oak, FL 32060
About
Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Residential Care includes activities such as swimming, baseball, volleyball, canoeing, and arts and crafts. Youth live in homes with a married couple, called a “mom and pop,” in a traditional family environment. The residential campuses follow a four-pillar philosophy of Work, Study, Play and Pray, with daily schedules that include school, an on-campus job, chapel services, and recreation activities.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
Founded in 1957, Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches has grown into a statewide network of residential campuses and summer camps. The residential campuses are described as a nationally renown network, and the services offered to at-risk youth are described as nationally recognized. Staff on each residential care campus are trained in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and are described as qualified and mission-driven. Boys and girls at the Boys Ranch campus attend school either on campus or in the local public school system, and the Donald Ralph Cooke School on the Boys Ranch campus offers smaller class sizes, personalized learning plans, and access to alternative degree options. Each youth participates in a structured work program, and the Polk Sheriffs Charities Scholarship House is set up for young adults to learn independent living skills with support from a residential life coach who lives on the campus and mentors them through first adult tasks such as opening a bank account or purchasing a vehicle. Youth Ranch Safety Harbor is described as a home for sibling groups who need a place to grow up together in a safe environment as a family. The stated mission of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches is to prevent delinquency and develop resilient, productive, and law-abiding citizens.
Special events throughout Florida raise funds to support the work of the organization. The Don Genung Training and Resource Center provides various Trauma-Informed Care Services to law enforcement, teachers, biological, adoptive, and foster parents, churches, and systems of care, with the stated aim of helping create trauma informed communities and bringing hope and healing to families and communities.
