About

The MCT Children’s Summer Theatre Program is a six week Summer Theatre Camp where children take part in a children’s summer theatre program. It is part of a larger theatre organization that also offers four major main-stage productions per season, weekly dance classes for current theatre members, gallery and main-stage readings, guest performances and concerts, and multiple special events.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Six week Summer Theatre Camp for children ages 6 to 18 years old

Marathon Community Theatre offers this program as part of a season that runs July through June and also presents fine art exhibitions in its gallery, annual holiday events, fundraisers and variety shows, and an annual community dance showcase. Marathon Community Theatre is operated by a fully volunteer Board of Directors with a small paid staff, and all members on-stage and behind-the-scenes are volunteers, with membership ranging from tweens to older adults. Marathon Community Theatre is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.

The organization began in 1944 as a traveling troupe called the Marathon Little Theatre and has developed over more than 80 years. It opened the 1996 theatrical season with Man of La Mancha, revamped its movie theatre in 2013 to provide digital films and sound, paid off the original building mortgage in 2016, completed major repairs from Hurricane Irma in 2017, installed a new digital lighting system in the main auditorium in 2019, replaced three commercial HVAC systems in 2020, and reopened the Marathon Community Cinema to the public in mid February 2021 after an 11-month closure due to the 2020 pandemic. Marathon Community Theatre states that its aim is to produce theatrical productions, train and support the next generation of theatre artists, provide arts education programs that promote life-long learning, and celebrate the power of the arts.

Marathon Community Theatre & Cinema is described as a vibrant hub for the community and aims to entertain local citizens, seasonal residents, and a large tourist population. The local community raised the funds needed to purchase the current venue, and the theatre has hosted events including dance classes, music concerts, theatrical events, business and organization meetings, private parties, and weddings on the main-stage. The MCT Board of Directors for the 2025/2026 season includes Linda Schaefer (President), Alex Rickert (Vice President of Production), Paige Kurtz (Executive Vice President), Jennifer Davis (Treasurer), Dale Coburn (Secretary), and board members Abbi Colella, John Hunt, George Lancaster, Kim Momaly, Josh Mothner, Sean Sayer, and Phil Vachon.
