The YMCA of Collier County has been serving Collier County since 1967, and the Marco Y was founded on November 14, 1977. For 40 years, the South Campus has been committed to children, families, and communities. The mission of the YMCA of Collier County is to put Judeo Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Cindy Love-Abounader is the President and CEO of the Marco Island YMCA. The YMCA of Collier County received one of the surprise grants awarded by the Collier Community Foundation, which totaled $650,000 across multiple nonprofits. The Y is described as a leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community by connecting children, teens, adults, and seniors to their potential, purpose, and each other, and it provides services to tens of thousands of individuals through its YMCA family centers. The youth programs are part of a larger organization that includes Early Learning Centers with staff who understand child development, all kinds of camp programs from specialty to day camps, and programs designed to enable youth to realize their potential. Financial assistance through scholarships for YMCA membership and programs is available based on demonstrated need and availability of funds. The YMCA of Collier County also notes plans for a new two-story, 17,000-square-foot facility at the Marco Island YMCA designed to cater to the island’s growing senior population, and its campuses include amenities such as an Outdoor Ability Field, Community Kitchen, Community Meeting Spaces, a 24-hour Fitness Center, an Outdoor Airnasium, and a Community Garden.
