About
Code Ninjas offers kids hands-on activities such as building their own video games, debugging code, basic block coding, programming in Minecraft and Roblox, robotics, and creating apps or websites to solve local problems. The program takes place in a Dojo that is described as a fun, safe, and inspiring learning environment for kids outside of school.
• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Class options Tuesday–Friday between 3:00PM and 7:00PM, and Saturday between 9:30AM and 3:00PM
Code Ninjas states that its mission is to turn screen time into skill time and to develop the next generation of problem solvers, creators, and leaders. It describes itself as the world’s largest and fastest-growing kids' coding franchise, with hundreds of locations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The program uses Outcome-Based Learning, with a curriculum developed with creation in mind so that students can express their imagination, experiment with new ideas, and have a sense of ownership and control over their creations. Its proprietary IMPACT learning platform gives Ninjas a tailored learning track through Belts and provides live feedback on their progress, and is described as helping develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills.
The Code Ninjas Prodigy Program offers participants the chance to interact with leaders from large technology and gaming companies, visit major headquarters, and explore various career paths that coding can lead to. Winning Ninjas have visited Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle, including Microsoft’s Garage, and met with the Microsoft Minecraft team and the Microsoft MakeCode team, as well as engaging in conversations with teams such as XBOX, Bing, and AI. Code Ninjas Camps are guided by a team of Code Senseis.
Code Ninjas states that it strives to have a positive relationship with the community by providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for kids outside of school and by encouraging students to use their coding skills to make a positive impact on the community, such as creating apps or websites to solve local problems. One parent, Cassie H, reports that both her son and daughter enjoy the program, are excited to show what they made, and that Parent’s Night Out was a success. Another parent, Diana R, says her son absolutely loves the place and seemed like a completely different kid when he stepped into the Dojo. Patricia W reports that her son coded his first game within 15 minutes and was very excited to sign up. Jessica H says her daughter enjoys Code Ninjas, describes the teachers as friendly, and calls it a great experience and exposure. Casey W says her son loves the program, has grown since he started, now likes to teach the family about coding, and describes the staff as excellent. Jane D says she has been impressed by the positive impact on children in the community and notes that they are learning technical skills along with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
