About
UCF STEM Student Programs includes activities in Generative AI, Computer Vision, Robotics, Medical AI, engineering integrated activities, and computer science and mathematics. Students can take part in hands-on experiences in an engineering makerspace, hands-on experience in optics and photonics, and AI-focused sessions that cover topics such as AI and entrepreneurship. The programs also include activities that increase interest, awareness, and passion for healthcare and research professions, along with opportunities to tour university campuses and facilities.
• Ages: 11–18 years old
• Schedule: Programs and events include options such as 9:00 am–4:00 pm day sessions and a regional competition day running from 7:00 am check-in through a 2:00–3:00 pm award ceremony
• Price: $20 per student (MISSION: STEM Regional Competition registration fee)
AI Summer Camp provides rising 8th grade students with a crash course on Generative AI, Computer Vision, Robotics, Medical AI, and related topics. Camp Connect offers broad exposure to engineering disciplines including electrical, industrial, mechanical, civil, environmental, aerospace, and computer science, and immerses students in engineering integrated activities while sharing tips on how to prepare for a college degree. GLAMPing offers rising 6th and 7th grade students hands-on experiences in an engineering makerspace along with leadership lessons. Summer Institutes are intensive programs for students interested in AI, Robotics, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, and Mathematics and include hands-on, individualized instruction with outstanding instructors. Laser & Photonics Camp serves rising 10th–12th graders interested in physics or engineering and includes hands-on exploration of photonics. The Health Leaders Summer Academy is an immersive educational summer experience for high school students in grades 10–12 who have a strong passion for allied health sciences or medicine, with a focus on students from low-income and first-generation in college families, and includes information on health-centered education tracks, campus and facility tours, and hands-on activities related to healthcare and research professions; scholarships are available for families with financial need for this academy.
The mission of MISSION: STEM, which grew out of the SECME program, is to engage, educate, and inspire all students. UCF is a sponsor and host for the MISSION: STEM Regional Competition, which includes essays, Energy Transfer Machine submissions, poster and video submissions, and Water Bottle Rocket patch design. SECME functioned as a strategic alliance that partnered schools, universities, industry, and government. The Center for Initiatives in STEM is led in part by a K-12 Coordinator, Renee Johnston, who can be reached by email at [email protected].
