Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop, Inc. is the brain child of Cynthia V. Simmons, Nancy Jo Mosser, Scott Winchester, and Scott Winchester and Robert Arcuri. Since 1981, its performance-based programs have served students at all skill levels, beginning in June 1981 with The Starshine Kids of Ormond Beach, which started with 5 students. In 1996, the group incorporated and received 501(c)(3) status and officially became Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop, Inc. Today, CMTworkshop, Inc. describes itself as a one-of-its-kind family atmosphere performing arts educational organization for young people in the Volusia and Flagler areas and states that it is dedicated to providing school-age students performing arts education focused on musical theater disciplines of voice, dance, and acting. CMT Workshop is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and is an approved Home Education Instructional Program provider through Step Up for Students scholarships. The organization notes that its programs currently serve over 200 students annually, offers needs-based scholarship and financial aid for all programs, and maintains outreach programs and partnerships with community, educational, and social service organizations.
