Beth Am Basketball is described as the largest temple-based basketball league in the country and is continuing its 52nd year. The league features play for girls and boys from 2nd–12th grade and weekly coed Peewee Clinics for girls and boys in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Fall League includes various divisions for girls and boys from 2nd–12th grades, with Bantam Boys and Rookie Girls divisions playing on shorter courts and 9-foot baskets, and all other divisions using regulation-height 10-foot baskets and full courts. Girls and Boys High School divisions use a “bring your own team” format, and registered players must be part of a team of 8–10 to join the league. Beth Am Basketball Coed Peewee Clinics are open to Kindergarten and 1st Grade, feature skill-development instruction and training, and are led by league referees and coaches, introducing the Beth Am Basketball way to the youngest players.
The league conducts mandatory player evaluations each season followed by a player draft where coaches select players to their teams. Fall 2026 player evaluations are held the weekend of August 29–30, with specific time slots for Junior Girls, Rookie Boys, Junior Boys, Bantam Boys, Senior Boys, Rookie Girls, and Senior Girls. Practices are held at the coach’s discretion on any day during the week except Friday. For 2nd through 12th Grade, the registration fee includes a full uniform, games, and playoffs, and Peewee Clinic participants receive a jersey.
More than 100 volunteer head and assistant coaches lead and instruct players in the league. Beth Am Basketball is open to the entire community and is a non-profit 501c. Temple Beth Am offers religious, educational, cultural, social, and athletic programs that meet the dynamic needs of the community and offers corporate partnership opportunities for Beth Am Basketball’s fall and spring seasons, with corporate sponsors and supporters. Temple Beth Am has a brand-new, state-of-the art Poyastro Family Athletic Center and Havenick Family Outdoor Basketball Court. The league emphasizes teamwork and sportsmanship, with fundamentals and skill development a focus for all players, regardless of experience or ability, and Temple Beth Am is described as a nurturing and caring Reform congregation committed to Jewish continuity, life-long education, spiritual renewal, life-cycle transitions, and Shabbat and holy day celebrations.
