McMurray’s Family Taekwondo offers martial arts and Taekwondo classes that include self-defense training. The program provides Taekwondo classes and private lessons led by a team of black belt instructors.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 4pm and 7pm
The leadership team includes Chief Instructor Mr. Zackery McMurray, a Fourth Degree Black Belt and Nationally Certified Instructor. Mr. McMurray is also an Internationally Certified Personal Trainer and opened his own school in Venice, Florida, in February 2019 after enrolling in Taekwondo in 2007 and becoming a certified instructor in 2016. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of South Florida in May 2024. The instructor team also includes Miss JoJo Gayler, a 2nd Degree Black Belt Decided and Junior Certified Instructor, and Ms. Larissa Taylor, a 1st Degree Black Belt Decided and Regionally Certified Instructor who joined McMurray’s Family Taekwondo in 2023 and became a First-Degree Black Belt and Regionally Certified Instructor in 2025.
The program’s stated goal is to teach quality martial arts, training the mind in the moral values of Taekwondo and the body in fitness and self-defense. It also states a goal of helping individuals optimize themselves as people in all aspects of life, using martial arts as a path to wholeness. McMurray’s Family Taekwondo notes a Taekwondo lineage that includes General Choi, H.U. Lee, Jee Ho Lee, Master Robinson, Mister Nelson, Mister Hauth, and Mister McMurray, and it offers a free one-week trial. The program states that it is proudly serving the Venice and Wellen Park area and emphasizes training the mind and body while building confidence, respect, courtesy, discipline, focus, leadership, strength, flexibility, stamina, courage, and integrity, and developing character.
