The Environmental Learning Center’s mission is to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being. Through the ELC’s Deep Dive Into the Lagoon program, 182 local fifth-grade students learned about lagoon conservation and planted mangroves that will help restore shorelines throughout the Indian River Lagoon. One visitor described seeing hundreds of birds returning to nest on Pelican Island, noted that the captain and guide pointed out wildlife along the pontoon trip, and reported watching a pod of dolphins hunting and interacting near the boat.
