About

The 4R Ambassador Summer Program is a one-week (reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink) adventure into the world of waste that includes hands-on activities and field trips. Participants go on behind-the-scenes visits at all SWA facilities, including a Home Chemical and Recycling Center, the landfill, the Recovered Materials Processing (recycling) Facility, Renewable Energy Facility 2, a transfer station, utilities, and the SWA Greenway Trail System. The program also includes visits to community partners such as Resource Depot, Loxahatchee River District and Grassy Waters Preserve, and participants are encouraged to bring an old electronic device to be recycled.

• Ages: 11–14 years old
• Schedule: One-week session, June 2–6
• Price: The program is free.

Renewable Energy Facility 2, which participants visit, is described as “the cleanest, greenest, most efficient waste-to-energy plant in the world!” Participants visit community partners, which include Resource Depot, Loxahatchee River District and Grassy Waters Preserve. Applicants are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants graduate as official SWA 4R Ambassadors who are encouraged to teach their family and friends how their waste can affect the environment and how to Recycle Right.
