About

After School Art Club offers art instruction for children and adults. The program also includes week-long art camps that take place during school breaks in summer, winter, and spring.

• Schedule: Week-long art camps during school breaks in summer, winter, and spring

The program takes place at a facility that includes a classroom for studio arts and a children’s area called AMAzing Space, which offers multiple ways for children to engage in the arts and includes a library with books for children and adults. The Albany Museum of Art, which runs this program, has its origins in the early 1960s with the formation of the Southwest Georgia Art Association, which became a not-for-profit organization in March 1964 and officially changed its name to the Albany Museum of Art in 1980. A new museum facility opened in 1983, the Harry and Jane Willson Auditorium was added in 1998, and after storm damage in January 2017, the museum reopened its downstairs galleries, auditorium, classroom, and AMAzing Space in August 2017. The Albany Museum of Art states that its mission is to bring the art of the South to the world and the art of the world to the South, and to engage audiences through exhibitions, events, collection preservation, research, and educational programming. The museum has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since the 1990s, a distinction achieved and maintained by only 3 percent of institutions nationwide. It hosts community and social events such as biannual Saturday Family Days, the annual Courageous Conversations about Race, AMA ChalkFest, and the Heart of Albany Festival.
