About
Camp Woodmont is a traditional overnight summer camp where campers take part in activities such as horseback riding, noncompetitive sports, climbing walls, ropes courses, X games, songs, hiking, and archery. The program also includes talent and skit nights as part of the camp experience. Campers experience cabin living and evenings around the campfire in a close family atmosphere with limited enrollment and an emphasis on nature and outdoor adventure.
• Ages: 6–15 years old
Camp Woodmont operates with a staff to camper ratio that averages 1:5. The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Camp Woodmont is a nondenominational Christian camp with an atmosphere described as appropriate for children from all faiths. The camp has two generations of family management and ownership with more than 70 years of combined experience, and the directors and staff are described as extremely involved in hands-on leadership and supervision of all aspects of the camp. Staff are trained to set the highest examples of behavior for campers.
The executive director, Alyson Gondek, continues the legacy of her parents and camp founders, Jane and Jim Bennett. Camp Woodmont participates in the American Camp Association’s “Don’t Laugh At Me” program. Camp Woodmont states that it respects the rights and dignity of all campers and staff, including individuals with varying abilities, cultures, genders, races, and religions, and that the camp is inclusive to all. The camp states that campers receive approval, acceptance, and appreciation and become self-reliant, confident, and independent, and that limited enrollment, caring counselors, and a convenient camp layout make new campers feel secure, welcomed, and reassured.
Parent and staff testimonials describe Camp Woodmont as a place their children return to year after year, progressing from campers to Counselor Assistants and Counselors in Training, and refer to it as a “home away from home.” Several parents note that their children look forward to camp each year, talk about friends and memories made there, and ask to stay longer. Testimonials describe children taking part in climbing walls, ropes courses, X games, songs, hiking, and archery, and spending time outside away from technology such as iPads, phones, Xbox, video games, television, laptops, and smartphones. Some parents and a licensed psychologist describe observing their children’s experiences at camp over multiple years and refer to camp as part of their family traditions. A counselor’s testimonial describes Camp Woodmont as a place where staff and campers bond quickly and where many people feel a strong emotional connection to the camp.
