The Girls in Business Initiative
Dacula Park Activity Building, 2735 Auburn Ave, Dacula, GA 30019
About
The Girls in Business Initiative gives participants the chance to develop a business concept, name a business, create a logo, design a business card, and complete workbook activities that take a business from conception to launch. Participants create a marketing plan, a finance plan that includes an estimate of business start-up costs, and a pitch deck. They then present their business and pitch to fellow participants, who serve as a panel of mock investors.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Business 101 for Girls Webinar is covered in two webinar sessions.
The Girls in Business Initiative was launched in 2020 and offers business and entrepreneurship training for girls through in-person camps and virtual classes. The Girls in Business Camp introduces girls ages 8 to 17 to basic business principles including the forms and types of businesses, business strategy, marketing, and finance. Business 101 for Girls Webinar introduces girls ages 9 to 17 to basic business principles including the forms and types of businesses, business strategy, marketing, and finance. Business 101 for Girls webinars are open to all girls with no regard to location, and all instruction is in English. The camp fee includes all materials, a GIB logo shirt, and a treat bag. The company is a for-profit company and is self-funded, does not offer volunteer opportunities or book speakers, and uses the Tickettailor ticketing platform to sell tickets to events.
Instructors are women with extensive experience as entrepreneurs, business executives, and/or certified teachers. All instructors and staff undergo annual background screenings and are duly registered in accordance with any requirements mandated by law in the markets in which the Girls in Business Initiative operates.
Parent and student comments include: “I learned how to grow my cake and cookie business. Thank you very much Girls in Business!” (Sienna W., Nov 2023) and “We took the online course during the lockdown. My girls and her mates love it. Just booked the London, UK camp on 16 March. Can’t wait!” (Siobhan M., Dec 2023). Other parents note that their children enjoyed the Atlanta camp and the Business 101 for Girls virtual class, describe the instructor as using business terminology and explaining concepts patiently, and say the student manual explains advanced business concepts in a way that kids can grasp (Paul R., Jan 2024; AnnaMarie S., Jan 2024; Christina C., Jan 2024). One parent reports that a normally shy child enjoyed the conversational format of the class, that every girl was able to share ideas, and that they were impressed with the pitch deck their child created, and also mentions being told that concepts are being developed to go deeper into marketing and finance (Meredith N., June 2023).
