About

The Girls in Business Initiative gives participants step-by-step activities to build a business from conception to launch. During the program, each girl develops a business concept, names her business, creates a logo, designs a business card, creates a marketing plan, and creates a finance plan that includes an estimate of business start-up costs. Participants also create a pitch deck and present their business and pitch to fellow participants, who form a panel of mock investors, and complete workbook activities that support each stage of creating their business.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Business 101 for Girls Webinar is covered in two webinar sessions.

The Girls in Business Initiative (GIB) was launched in 2020. It offers business and entrepreneurship training for girls through in-person Girls in Business Camps and virtual Business 101 for Girls webinars. Girls in Business Camp introduces girls ages 8 to 17 to basic business principles, including forms and types of businesses, business strategy, marketing, and finance, and each student is guided through creating her own business. Business 101 for Girls Webinar introduces girls ages 9 to 17 to basic business principles, including forms and types of businesses, business strategy, marketing, and finance, and the webinars are open to all girls with no regard to location. All instruction is in English. The company is a for-profit company and is self-funded, and it uses the Tickettailor ticketing platform to sell tickets to events.

Instructors in The Girls in Business Initiative are women with extensive experience as entrepreneurs, business executives and/or certified teachers. All instructors and staff undergo annual background screenings and are duly registered in accordance with any requirements mandated by law in the markets in which The Girls in Business Initiative operates. The camp fee includes all materials, a GIB logo shirt and a treat bag. The program does not offer volunteer opportunities or book speakers.

Parent and student comments include: “I learned how to grow my cake and cookie business. Thank you very much Girls in Business!” (Sienna W., Nov 2023). One parent shared, “We took the online course during the lockdown. My girls and her mates love it. Just booked the London, UK camp on 16 March. Can’t wait!” (Siobhan M., Dec 2023). Another parent stated, “My girls enjoyed the Atlanta camp. A must for any child starting a business or wanting to take a home business to the next level.” (Paul R., Jan 2024). A parent described, “Wonderful experience! My daughter literally asked me if she could attend the in-person camp after taking the Business 101 for Girls virtual class. The instructor treated the students and their ideas with respect. She used business terminology and explained very patiently each concept.” (AnnaMarie S., Jan 2024). Additional feedback includes: “Great instructor. The student manual is clear and explains advanced business concepts in a way that kids can grasp. I am impressed with the Girls in Business Initiative. Highly recommend here.” (Christina C., Jan 2024). Another parent noted, “My normally shy girl loved this camp. I can tell from the photos taken during the camp that she thrived in that the conversational format of the class. She says every girl was able to share ideas. We were so impressed at her pitch deck. I only wish there were more camps offered. The instructor said they are developing concepts to go deeper into marketing and finance. This is a brilliant start.” (Meredith N., June 2023).
