About
For The Children – Lovejoy Royal Family Kids Camp and Mentoring Club offers a 5-day experience where children spend time at a campground with nature and activities that keep them outside and playing. Campers take part in pool time, fishing, and canoeing as part of the program.
• Schedule: 5-day experience
The Lovejoy Royal Family Kids’ Camp began in 1998, and the first camp under this model was founded in California in 1985. In 2015, the program added a year-round mentoring program for children in foster care, called the Mentoring Club. As of 2022, it was one of 240 week-long camps worldwide. The organization rebranded from Royal Family KIDS to For The Children in November 2020.
The camp curriculum and activities are woven through the modality of Trust-Based Relational Intervention. The program focuses on creating safe and healthy relationships for the long-term for children in foster care and provides direct trauma intervention, advocacy, fostering, adoption, support to parents, and other wraparound services. In 2026, 52 children attended the camp, 18 children participated in the Mentoring Club, and 80 children attended their Christmas Event.
The Royal Family Kids’ Camp Mission Statement is to create positive memories for abused and neglected children, to show them a side of life where they do not have to be afraid of being abused, abandoned, or denied food, and to assist them in learning how to succeed in life and teach them that, although they have had a bad beginning, they can have a brighter future. The program is presently sponsored by Lovejoy Family Church of the Nazarene in Lovejoy, GA. Leadership for the program includes Alice Harper and Jennifer Campbell.
One testimonial from Becca C. Johnson, Ph.D., states, “The overall effectiveness of Royal Family KIDS camps that I have experienced is that one week at camp can be as effective as 1 year of counseling sessions.” A camper shared, “The thing I like at Royal Family Kids Camp is mostly the pool, then fishing. I get to try new things and I learned how to swim. I also got to go canoeing. And I made new friends . I like the Counselors. That’s why I like Royal Family Kids Camp.” Another camper said, “I like this camp because this is my family.” The Christian Camp and Conference Association states that it enthusiastically supports the work of RFK Camp and describes RFK Camp as providing an environment, program and volunteers well-suited to the unique needs of kids in foster care, with a proven track record of providing quality, life-changing experiences.
