The Arts Center of Moultrie Youth Arts Programs take place within a landmark facility that was transformed from the old Moultrie High School in 1987 and belongs to the National Register of Historic Places. The Arts Center’s mission states that it strives to provide engaging arts education for children and adults, act as a steward of permanent collections, and maintain a landmark facility that enriches Moultrie, Georgia and neighboring communities, and that it is dedicated to providing an abundance of creativity through classes, workshops, exhibits, events and more. The mission also states that The Arts Center is a creative cultural resource that makes quality visual and performing arts available to a diverse population. The leadership team includes Executive Director Kelly Avery, Finance Director Jordan Durham, Curator Amber Moore, Program & Education Director Krysta Porteus, Marketing Coordinator Shelby Hawkins, Welcome Desk staff member Kim Lovett, Kaleidoscope Instructor Kathy Nelson, and Facilities & Rentals Manager Kota Tillman.
The Arts Center’s community involvement includes outreach programs that take art education to schools and assisted living facilities, and it states that it enriches Colquitt County and its neighboring communities. The Colquitt County Arts Council was formed by Moultrie Service League, which wished to encourage participation and enjoyment of the arts among all citizens of Colquitt County. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored The Arts Center with its Community Service Award. The Arts Center describes its Kaleidoscope Museum as perfect for parties and field trips, notes that all age ranges are welcome and that no stage experience is necessary, and states that classes in ballet, tap, and jazz are grouped by age. Members receive a 10% discount for certain events, and The Arts Center is described as a thread of gold running through the fabric of this rural community.
