About

Code Ninjas is a program where kids build their own video games, learn basic block coding, and debug code. Participants also work on programming in Minecraft and Roblox, explore robotics, and may create apps or websites to solve local problems.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Class times are available Tuesday through Friday in the afternoon and early evening, and on Saturdays during the day.

Code Ninjas states that its mission is to turn screen time into skill time and to develop the next generation of problem solvers, creators, and leaders. The program takes place in a Dojo, which is described as a fun, safe, and inspiring learning environment outside of school, guided by a team of Code Senseis. Code Ninjas has received the ISTE Seal of Approval and is described as the world’s largest and fastest-growing kids' coding franchise, with hundreds of locations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The program uses an Outcome-Based Learning approach that focuses on clear learning goals and activities and assessments aligned to those goals. Its curriculum is developed with creation in mind, allowing students to express their imagination, experiment with new ideas, and have a sense of ownership and control over their creations. Code Ninjas uses a proprietary learning platform called IMPACT, which is designed to give Ninjas a tailored learning track through Belts and to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills.

Code Ninjas describes a commitment to positive community relationships by providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for kids outside of school and by encouraging students to use coding skills to address local problems through apps or websites. The Code Ninjas Prodigy Program offers selected Ninjas the chance to interact with leaders from major technology and gaming companies, visit notable headquarters, and explore career paths related to coding. Winning Ninjas in this program visited Microsoft’s Headquarters in Seattle, WA, including Microsoft’s Garage, and met with the Microsoft Minecraft team, the Microsoft MakeCode team, and other teams such as XBOX, Bing, and AI.

Parent testimonials report that children enjoy Code Ninjas, are excited to show what they make, and leave with a smile. Parents mention experiences such as a successful Parent’s Night Out, children coding their first game within minutes, and kids wanting to teach their families about coding. Several parents describe the staff as friendly or excellent and note positive impacts on children’s exposure to coding, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
