The Learning Treehouse is a Quality Rated child care center that focuses on learning through hands-on play experiences and nature-based, high-quality learning experiences. The program includes inclusive, compassionate care for medically fragile children, and the Pre-K room is named “Tanner Hall” in honor of Tanner Boland. Fall Assessments give families a snapshot of each child’s learning growth.
The Learning Treehouse Preschool and Day Care opened in September 2001 and has expanded the main building and opened Treehouse Too, which is located adjacent to the main facility. From 2001 to 2024, Ashley and the Boland family served as owners, and Ashley Boland, a former special needs Pre-K teacher, founded the program with her former partner, Sheila Huggins. Jana Fox, who has been part of The Learning Treehouse since May 2002 and has many years of experience as a lead teacher in the toddler classroom, is the current owner and director. Jana holds a diploma in Early Childhood Program Administration and the National Administrator Credential, and her two sons have both attended The Treehouse since birth.
The Learning Treehouse states that its mission is to provide Effingham County and the surrounding area with a safe learning environment while instilling a lifelong love of learning and education. The mission describes honoring each child’s unique early learning journey in a safe and nurturing environment, inspiring hands-on exploration through play, and connecting children with nature-based and high-quality learning experiences. The program’s mission also emphasizes empowering children to engage deeply with the world, fostering resilience and creativity, and offering a rich, language-filled, and discovery-driven childhood as a foundation for learning.
The Learning Treehouse is involved in community and charitable activities, including Alex’s Lemonade Stand as a fundraiser for Childhood Cancer Research and a Trike-A-Thon fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The program collaborates with local and national organizations to advocate for policy changes that benefit young learners and their families, and Jana regularly partners with local schools, childcare organizations, and parenting groups to create a supportive network for families. The center also hosts educational visits from local police, EMS, and the fire department.
Parent testimonials describe children attending The Learning Treehouse from as early as 7–8 weeks old and “growing up” at the center, with several parents noting long-term enrollment. Parents mention experiences such as their children learning letters, numbers, colors, the solar system, and farming, going on field trips, and enjoying class parties. Multiple testimonials reference the teaching staff, directors, and environment, and several parents state that they would recommend The Learning Treehouse to other families.
