The program offers afterschool instruction, small group instruction, tournaments, summer camps, private lessons, and advanced lessons. It serves public and private schools, homeschool groups, and online groups across the nation, and offers fun chess tournaments for kids of all ages in the Atlanta area.
The program’s staffing approach uses both tournament chess players and educators. It is a child-centered program with highly qualified and experienced chess coaches, and each instructor must pass in-depth background checks. Instructors are selected for both their chess playing ability and their ability to work with children, parents, and schools.
Kid Chess After School Programs states that its main focus is to keep the game fun for children while teaching them life lessons such as sportsmanship, problem solving, critical thinking, and patience. Kid Chess is described as Atlanta’s leading chess program for kids and the largest chess instructional program in the Southeast. The program notes that over 90% of the top elementary schools in Atlanta have chess programs.
Kid Chess contributes to the community as a Partner in Education with many schools, sponsoring school events and donating funds, time, free classes, chess sets, and other equipment to schools. Testimonials from parents and school partners describe patient and knowledgeable coaches, attention to individual students, and appreciation for Kid Chess’s involvement and support in school communities.
