Main Street School of the Arts began in 2003 as Main Street School of Music and added art classes in January 2011, when it became Main Street School of the Arts. The school was launched by the founder and her husband, Kevin. Kevin has a background playing guitar in the local band “Hollyfaith,” which signed a major label record deal with Sony/Epic and toured internationally, and the founder studied fine art and earned a B.F.A. in graphic design from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Main Street School of the Arts has been voted one of the “Top 10 Neighborhood Gems” in the Best of Atlanta edition of Atlanta Magazine. The program’s mission statement describes it as a place where fun, creativity, and academia come together, offering art and music classes and camps, and states that gaining skills in art or music can have an impact on children’s personal lives, that early creative learning experiences are important for intellectual growth, and that the school aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and life-long learning skills.
