The ‘Main Street School of Music’ was launched in 2003, and art classes were added in January 2011 when it became ‘Main Street School of the Arts.’ The school was started by the founder and her husband, Kevin, after the founder’s long career as a graphic designer. Kevin has a background playing guitar in the local band “Hollyfaith,” which signed a major label record deal with Sony/Epic and toured internationally. The founder studied fine art and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a B.F.A. in graphic design. The program’s mission states that early creative learning experiences in art and music during the developmental years are important for intellectual growth, and that it is important to foster creativity, critical thinking, and life-long learning skills. MAIN STREET SCHOOL OF THE ARTS was voted one of the “Top 10 Neighborhood Gems” in the Best of Atlanta edition of “Atlanta Magazine.”
