About
JKA WF Chicago Karate Institute offers training in Traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate. The program focuses on karate practice led by experienced instructors in a beautiful, custom-built facility.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
The Institute was registered in the State of Illinois in 2008. Its motto is “Karate for Character.” The dojo recites the Dojo Kun at the end of each class: “One! Seek perfection of Character!”, “One! Be Honest and Faithful!”, “One! Endeavour to Excel!”, “One! Respect self and others!”, and “One! Refrain from violent behavior!”
Sensei Dhawan is described as very knowledgeable and with deep and detailed understanding of karate, and the dojo also has great and friendly Sempais. One testimonial describes Mr Dhawan as an incredible teacher who will make kids very athletic and strong. Another testimonial calls it an excellent traditional Shotokan karate school, one of the best in the state of Illinois, with a world-class instructor and a great dojo for all ages. A parent review notes that the schedule is full with classes for everyone from kids to adults.
The dojo is a member of JKA WF America, which is directly affiliated with the Japan Karate Association headquarters in Tokyo, and it is a registered member club with the USA National Karate Federation, which is a member of the USOC and USOPC. JKA WF Chicago Karate Institute is described as home to champions in karate and life, with many senior members having achieved success at State, National, and International Championships. Young members can train to compete at the Chicago Classic, the Illinois State, the US Open, and the USANKF National Karate Championships. Monthly Regional Tournament-Team Training Sessions are available, with details listed on their calendar.
The dojo was showcased by the City of Aurora, Illinois, and Mayor Richard Irvin's Office of Economic Development. It is described as devoted to offering the best instruction in a safe, disciplined, and friendly environment for the entire family. Staff teach life-skills to the younger generation and foster them with compassion and dignity, and they are trained to help individuals of all physical abilities to improve physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Karate at this dojo is presented as suitable for ages from 4 to 64 years old and beyond. They also conduct fundraising to support National and International level athletes and coaches with travel.
