About
Real Movement & Martial Arts – Kids Martial Arts (Jiu Jitsu/Self-Defense) offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, martial arts training, and self-defense for kids. Classes at Real Movement & Martial Arts (RMMA) also include grappling, striking, yoga, group fitness, HIIT, and other movement and fitness activities.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Real Movement & Martial Arts was established in March 2021. The program is led by owner and head instructor Joey Diehl, a lifelong martial artist who is a 3rd degree black belt, a professional MMA fighter, and a yoga and movement specialist, and who holds a second-degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu earned under Jeff Curran. The mission of RMMA states that training can include martial arts, movement, or fitness. RMMA states that people of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome and that the goal is to create a supportive environment where members can learn, grow, and challenge themselves both on and off the mats. Families can start a free 3-day trial at RMMA, and parents are encouraged to be spectators and observe all kids’ classes. RMMA notes that training at the academy includes a focus on strength, mobility, overall wellness, resilience, confidence, and community.
Students are expected to maintain proper personal hygiene, including trimmed nails, wear a clean uniform, and use clean equipment. Outdoor shoes are removed upon entering the academy, and a set of indoor shoes is brought to wear when off the mat or using the restroom, with no shoes allowed on the mat except wrestling shoes. Jewelry and watches must be removed before training, and students do not chew gum, eat food, or drink beverages other than water on the mat. RMMA uniform and equipment is encouraged, and for striking classes students are expected to have gloves and shin pads or inform the instructor before class if they do not have them.
