Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood St., Bensenville, IL 60106
About
Dog Days Summer Camp is a 3-day camp program where participants learn and practice dog safety, dog assessment, dog teaching, and dog handling. The program includes active lessons interacting with dogs provided by the program, and personal dogs are not allowed. Content and activities are offered for beginners as well as youth who have attended other programs.
• Ages: 9–15 years old
• Schedule: 3-day camp program meeting June 15–19, 2026, on Tuesdays from 4:30–5:45 PM
• Price: $120 residents / $155 nonresidents
Dog Days Summer Camp is part of Paws 4 Kids 4 Paws, whose mission is to provide animal-assisted experiences for youth to develop their strengths by helping rescue animals become more adoptable. The programs are designed to inspire and motivate neurodivergent learners who struggle with academic or social settings, and are part of a series that allows kids to build different skills over time, earning badges and other levels of achievement. Youth in the program help rescue animals become more adoptable, and the day camp is open to both residents and non-residents, with a limited number of scholarships that may be available. The co-founders, Henry and Tricia, lead the organization, which is building partnerships with organizations such as the Bensenville Park District and the Elmhurst Public Library. A testimonial from Eco Air Pros Heating and Cooling describes Dog Days Summer Camp as an opportunity for kids to learn about dog safety and handling in a fun and educational setting and notes that the organization supports the community through scholarships.
Families are asked to have participants wear comfortable clothes and good, comfortable, preferably closed-toe shoes. Campers should bring extra gear in case of rain and be prepared for heat and sun with items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats. Each child should pack a clearly labeled lunch, and the camp provides some limited snacks and beverages for breaks.
