Camp Kearney Summer Camp is part of South Side Mission, a non-profit organization that serves people in need through a variety of ministries and carries out its work with the help of thousands of volunteer hours each year. Camp Kearney was founded over 50 years ago as a result of a vision given to long-time South Side Mission worker Margaret Kearney, and its roots go back to 1925 when Helen Haien had the vision to reach children from lower-income families in Peoria with the love of Jesus. The camp offers non-denominational Christian religious instruction and follows the mission of South Side Mission, which is “to proclaim Jesus Christ, and in His name love our neighbors and provide hope to the community through life-transforming ministries.” The South Side Mission is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is qualified to receive tax-deductible donations.
Parents and supporters have shared feedback about the broader ministry, including Sarah, who said, “I’m thankful for South Side Mission and happy to support them. It’s a beacon of hope, and more!” and Evelyn, who said, “I left God, but he never left me, and the ministry at South Side Mission was my refuge.”
