About
Zoo Camps includes seasonal camps where campers take part in hands-on activities, visit the animals, and explore the zoo. Campers learn about animals and how the zoo cares for them through immersive learning, team-building, weekly field trips, and conversations with zoo experts. Zoo Crew sessions also include a Late Stay at the Zoo on the last Wednesday of each session.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Conservation Camp runs June–August; Zoo Crew runs July–August; Winter Break Camp runs December 22–23 and 29–30; Zoo Crew sessions are two weeks long
Everything at Zoo Camps is rooted in the mission to connect people with nature. Seasonal camps are offered for grades preK–8, and campers must be at least 4 years old on their first day of camp to attend. As part of a stated commitment to serving all who want to participate, scholarships are available for most programs. The program states that it values the inclusion of campers of all abilities and has an Inclusion Specialist at summer camp who can communicate with families and camp staff to develop accommodations for campers with diverse needs. A free, school year-long program connected to the zoo engages middle and high school youth in research activities that support the work of the Urban Wildlife Institute. The zoo is open 365 days a year, and entry is always free.
