Enso Karate

Enso Karate offers Shotokan Karate through adult, youth, and Kinder Karate classes, as well as family classes. The program also offers after-school programs, private sessions, summer camp, online programs, and events and seminars for students and families.

Enso Karate was established in 2002. The program is led by Sensei Jay Nacu and Sensei Denise Nacu, who lead Enso as a husband and wife team. Enso states that it provides a nurturing place for students of all ages and levels to learn and grow through the study of martial arts, and that the enso represents its commitment to personal growth by providing quality programs that emphasize discipline, dedicated practice, and balance of body, mind and spirit. The dojo describes itself as a welcoming and diverse community, with classes for adults and children age 4 and up, beginners welcome, a family discount, and online registration available. It is described as one of the largest martial arts schools in Chicago, with a vibrant and diverse community of karate practitioners and families, a central location that attracts students from many Chicago neighborhoods, and a dojo location in the western suburb of Oak Park. The program notes an emphasis on traditional martial arts values of self-control, discipline, humility, and respect, and describes its classes as a great workout for mind, body and spirit that can energize and de-stress, build awareness, and build calm. Students from Chicago and Oak Park locations often have a chance to train together during tournaments, seminars, belt exams, and community activities.
